Dr. Kendall VanNostrand, DOM
Dr. Kendall McKinley VanNostrand, DOM, specializes in 5 ElementAcupuncture, a classical tradition of medicine based in ancient Chinese Taoism and incorporating aspects from Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese traditions. 5 Element Acupuncture is rooted in Taoist observation of the laws of nature – how these laws operate in the macrocosm of the natural world, and how they are mirrored in the microcosm of a human being – and works with the natural movements of creation within a human being to correct the underlying cause of illness. Treatment consists primarily of acupuncture needling and moxabustion, using compressed herbs to warm specific acupuncture points. Each patient is approached and treated as a whole person, considering the interconnection of the physical body, the mind, and the spirit, to reach the root cause of disease. The intention of treatment is to produce an enduring change that will lead to a state of true and vital health.
Kendall began her training in Chinese Medicine through the study of qigong, a practice that cultivates, circulates, and harmonizes life-force within the body, mind, and spirit. Prior, she had been practicing Western herbalism, initially training at the California School of Herbal Medicine, and later teaching at the Milagro School of Herbal Medicine in Santa Fe, NM. She is certified in Hoshindo Japanese Meridian Apitherapy through the Hoshindo Healing Arts Institute. Kendall received her Masters of Acupuncture and certification in Chinese Herbal Medicine from the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture. She continues her training in 5 Element Taoist Acupuncture with Laura Stelmok at The Virtue of Heaven Earth teaching clinic.
